§ 9.48.030. Traffic citations—Procedure for issuance.

  • Except when authorized or directed to immediately take a person before a district court judge for the violation of any traffic laws, a police officer who cites a person for such violation and does not take such person into custody under arrest shall take the name, address and operator's license number of the person, and registered number of the motor vehicle involved and such other pertinent information as may be necessary, and shall issue to the person in writing on a form provided by the municipality a traffic citation containing a notice to answer the charges against the person in the district court at a date and time provided by the traffic violations bureau. The officer, upon personally serving a copy of the citation for a nonjailable offense upon the alleged violator, shall release such person from custody.
