§ 9.18.070. Operation of vehicles on approach of authorized emergency vehicles.

    Upon the approach of an authorized emergency vehicle making use of an audible signal meeting the requirements of section 9.36.360 D., and visual signals meeting the requirements of section 9.44.190, or of a police vehicle properly and lawfully making use of either an audible or visual signal, the driver of every vehicle proceeding in any direction shall yield the right-of-way by slowing and pulling to the right hand edge of the roadway, clear of an intersection and stopping, to await the passage of the emergency vehicle, except when otherwise directed by a police officer.

    B.

    The driver of any motor vehicle who is being requested to stop, for a suspected or actual violation, through the use of visual signals meeting the requirements of section 9.44.190, on an authorized emergency vehicle of the police department, shall comply with the requirements of subsection A. of this section and shall remain stopped until otherwise directed by a police officer.

    C.

    This section shall not operate to relieve the driver of an authorized emergency vehicle from the duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons using the street.
