§ 9.06.020. General duties of traffic unit.

  • A.

    It shall be the duty of the traffic unit, with such aid as may be rendered by other members of the police department to:

    1.

    Enforce this title in those portions of the municipality where municipal police protection or highway law enforcement is provided;

    2.

    Enforce all of the state vehicle laws applicable to street traffic in the portions of the municipality where municipal police protection or highway law enforcement is provided;

    3.

    Make arrests for traffic violations;

    4.

    Investigate crashes;

    5.

    Cooperate with the traffic engineer and other officers of the municipality in the administration of the traffic laws in those portions of the municipality where municipal police protection or highway law enforcement is provided; and

    6.

    Develop ways and means to improve traffic conditions, and to carry out those duties especially imposed upon the traffic unit by this title.

    B.

    Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the traffic unit, the police department or the state troopers from enforcing or administering the law or making arrests pursuant to provisions of this title in any part of the municipality.

    C.

    Nothing in this section bars enforcement of the provisions of chapters 9.30, 9.32 and 9.34 by duly authorized parking enforcement officers.
