§ 24.40.001. Backfilling and compaction of trenches or excavation in public rights-of-way.

  • A.

    The roadway prism is considered to be the full width of the roadway, including sidewalks or shoulders, with the side slopes projected downward or upward, as applicable, at a slope of 1½ horizontal to one vertical.

    B.

    All backfill material will be placed in the trench at optimum moisture content in horizontal lifts not to exceed eight inches in thickness and compacted to 95 percent of maximum density as determined by the current requirements of AASHO T-99 test for moisture-density of soil in-place and Anchorage Municipal Code 24.40.

    C.

    Material to be used as backfill shall be an approved nonfrost susceptible sand or gravel, except that the top six inches of material shall be classified fill graded within the following limitations under "A" or "B."
